2027 Employee Benefits Guide

Plan year: January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2027

Your 2027 benefits

Open enrollment runs November 3 through November 14. What you pick stays in place for all of 2027 unless you have a qualifying life event, so give this guide fifteen minutes before you choose.

Two things are new this year: the Pine HDHP now comes with a bigger company contribution to your HSA, and we added a limited-purpose FSA so HDHP enrollees can still set aside pre-tax money for dental and vision. Everything else, including our dental and vision plans, carries forward with small rate changes.

Who's eligible

Who's eligible
All regular employees scheduled for 30 or more hours per week.
When coverage begins
First of the month following your date of hire.
Eligible dependents
Your legal spouse and your children up to age 26 (regardless of student or marital status). Children of any age who are incapable of self-support due to disability may also be covered.
When coverage ends
Coverage ends on the last day of the month in which employment ends or you no longer meet eligibility requirements.

How to enroll

Enrollment window: November 3, 2026 through November 14, 2026

Log in with your work email, review your current elections, and confirm or change each one. The whole thing takes about ten minutes. Enrollment closes at 11:59 pm Pacific on the last day.

Enroll at: https://enroll.harborpine.example

If you do nothing

Your current medical, dental, and vision elections continue at the 2027 rates. FSA elections do NOT carry over; you must re-enroll to participate in any FSA next year.

Life changes mid-year

You have 30 days from a qualifying life event to report it and change your elections. Changes must be consistent with the event. Events involving Medicaid or CHIP eligibility carry a 60-day window under federal law.

Outside open enrollment, you can only change your elections after a qualifying life event: marriage or divorce, birth or adoption of a child, a dependent losing eligibility (for example, turning 26), a change in your spouse's employment or coverage, or loss of other coverage. Report the event to HR within the window above; changes must be consistent with the event.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

An HSA is a bank account you own. Money goes in before taxes, grows tax-free, and comes out tax-free for eligible medical, dental, and vision expenses. The balance rolls over every year and goes with you if you leave. You can only contribute while enrolled in a qualified high-deductible health plan.

Employer contribution

Individual coverage$600
Family coverage$1,200

2027 IRS contribution limits

Self-only coverage$4,500
Family coverage$9,000
Additional if 55 or older$1,000

Limits include employer contributions. Verify current figures with your plan administrator. (2026-07-29)

To contribute, you must be enrolled in the HDHP, not covered by any other non-HDHP plan (including a spouse's general-purpose FSA), not enrolled in Medicare, and not claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return.

The company contribution is deposited in two halves: January and July. You keep it even if you leave.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Health Care FSA

Set aside pre-tax money for eligible medical, dental, and vision expenses. You elect an annual amount at enrollment and it's deducted evenly from your paychecks. The full election is available on day one of the plan year.

2026 IRS election limit: $3,400. The IRS had not yet announced the 2027 limit when this guide was prepared; the figure shown is the 2026 limit. Confirm with your plan administrator.

This plan lets you carry over up to $680 of unspent money into the next plan year; anything above that is forfeited.

Limited-Purpose FSA

For HDHP enrollees who contribute to an HSA: this FSA covers dental and vision expenses only, so it doesn't affect your HSA eligibility.

Dependent Care FSA

Set aside pre-tax money for eligible dependent care (day care, preschool, before/after-school care, elder day care) so you and your spouse can work. Federal limit: $7,500 per household per year.

On most plans, FSA elections do not continue into the new year on their own. Re-enroll each year to participate, unless your employer tells you otherwise.

Life and AD&D insurance

Basic Life and AD&D (employer-paid)

$50,000 flat benefit

Your employer provides this coverage at no cost to you. AD&D (accidental death and dismemberment) pays an additional benefit for covered accidents. Name a beneficiary during enrollment and keep it current.

Voluntary Life (employee-paid)

You can buy additional life insurance for yourself, your spouse, and your children at group rates, paid through payroll.

Employee guaranteed issue$150,000
Spouse guaranteed issue$30,000
Child coverage$10,000 flat

Amounts above the guaranteed-issue level require evidence of insurability: a health questionnaire the carrier reviews. Coverage above that level takes effect only after the carrier approves it.

Disability insurance

Disability insurance replaces part of your income if illness or injury keeps you from working. The elimination period is the wait between when you become disabled and when payments begin.

Short-Term Disability (STD)

Glossary

Deductible
What you pay for covered care each year before the plan starts paying its share. Premiums and copays don't count toward it.
Copay
A fixed dollar amount you pay for a covered service, like $25 for an office visit.
Coinsurance
Your percentage share of the cost of covered care after you've met the deductible. If coinsurance is 20%, the plan pays 80%.
Out-of-pocket maximum
The most you'll pay for covered in-network care in a plan year. After you reach it, the plan pays 100% of covered services.
In-network
Doctors and facilities that contract with your plan at negotiated rates. Staying in network almost always costs less.
Embedded deductible
On a family plan, each person only has to meet the individual deductible before the plan pays for their care. On a non-embedded plan, the whole family deductible must be met first.
Formulary
Your plan's list of covered prescription drugs, organized into cost tiers.
EOB (Explanation of Benefits)
The statement your plan sends after a claim showing what was billed, what the plan paid, and what you may owe. It is not a bill.
HDHP
High-deductible health plan. Lower premiums, higher deductible, and the only plan type that lets you contribute to an HSA.

Required annual notices

Employers are required to distribute certain annual notices, such as Medicare Part D creditable coverage, CHIPRA, the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act, and HIPAA privacy notices. Obtain current versions from your broker or legal counsel and distribute them alongside this guide. This guide does not include or replace those notices.
